When I first heard about coding in my Fundamentals and Digital Online Media class, my first though was this is going to be hard. Once we got a little more into and I saw how important it was to the web I was immediately fascinated. Learning about the Coding Workshop that was going to be offered, I immediately jumped at the opportunity to learn more. HTML, CSS and JavaScript are mentioned in a lot of jobs applications or recommended skills. Not only will it help you stand out amongst other people, but it is a valuable skill.

With a little HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) under my belt, I was excited to learn JavaScript. The course started out with 6 short online modules with a few quizzes and discussion posts. Then after two weeks we met on a Saturday to put our coding skills to the test. Cindy Royal, our course instructor, was so knowledgeable and made sure no one was lost. We went through each coding style and practiced with each before we put everything together for our final product. We ended up creating a quiz that gave you results with memes.

One major lesson I got out of this class is patience and the ability to accept mistakes. Multiple times while entering codes and checking the site to see the new addition, something would go wrong. I would have to go back to the code and search for the mistake. While coding can be intimidating, it is an amazing skill to learn. I was able to create my own quiz with fun memes in a short amount of time, not many people can say that. I plan on taking more coding courses in the future to continue learning the wonderful world of code.
